Brixton is our home, and looking after it is something we do together.
Previous clean-ups have shown what can happen when local people step up together. New connections were made, public spaces were improved, and there was a real sense of community pride across Brixton.
What is it?
The Brixton Community Clean-up is a coordinated day of action bringing together young people, residents, local businesses, community organisations and partners to improve the local environment across Brixton and nearby estates.
Why?
The initiative is deliberately positive and practical. It’s about local people visibly taking responsibility for the places they live, work and socialise, strengthening pride in Brixton and reinforcing shared expectations around care, behaviour and partnership with the council. It’s about more than picking up litter, it’s young people setting the standard for the kind of Brixton they want to live in, and encouraging everyone, residents, businesses and public agencies alike, to play their part in making that happen.

Where?
The clean-up will take place simultaneously across Central Brixton, Moorlands Estate, Loughborough Junction and Angell Town, with each area focusing on its own local patch. Local Community Champions will coordinate volunteers, equipment and briefings so teams can work safely and efficiently.
Who?
The effort is youth led by design, with young people from the Young People’s Movement (YPM) and RAE Academy involved in planning, promotion, delivery and follow up. They’re supported by Marcus Lipton Centre, Brixton BID, Loughborough Junction Action Group, ACTION on ASB! and other community organisations. The day will conclude with a shared celebration in central Brixton, bringing everyone together to recognise collective effort, amplify positive messages and reinforce pride in place.
When
